How to make your bag(s) last long & stay beautiful
Leather: When it comes to genuine leather, we distinguish between two goals: cleaning and durability.
We use mild saddle/leather soap for cleaning. This is applied to the leather with a damp cloth or sponge and in circular movements. Then let it dry (not in the sun or near a radiator). Once the leather is dry, it can be rubbed with a good leather product, which nourishes the leather and prevents cracks or similar damage.
Please note that Vachetta leather is more delicate and you should be particularly careful here (test on a small area at first).
Metal hardware: If there are stains, dirt or fingerprints on it, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth. Then wipe it down with a dry cloth. For some stubborn residues, you can also use a brass cleaner, but always test it carefully on a small, less visible area first.
Canvas/Visetos: To freshen up your bag from time to time, a damp wipe of the canvas/Visetos is often enough. We do this with a microfiber cloth and not too wet, just damp. Gently wiping and then drying with a fine cotton cloth ( sustainability tip: use an old T-shirt without a print or other decoration ) will make it look fresher again.
Jacquard: If the bag/purse is made of fabric, Gucci, for example, calls it "jacquard". If a stain has formed, you can try to remove it carefully with a damp cloth. If this is not possible, the second step is to apply a stain remover (pay attention to the color and material) to the damp cloth. Then try again carefully to remove the stain.
Patent leather (Vernis): Patent leather is a little trickier than other materials when it comes to scratches, but easier to remove stains when there are dirt residues. A damp microfiber cloth (must not be rough) and careful drying afterwards can achieve a lot. It is important that the patent leather handbag is stored separately, as patent leather/vernis can take on the color of the neighbor if, for example, a bag is resting against it (best to put it in the dust bag and keep it separate).
We have adopted these tips from our everyday life with preloved items, as we use them ourselves - it is always important to take a careful approach that corresponds to the material.
